Archdiocese of New Orleans Bankruptcy Status Conference

New Orleans judge tells Archdiocese to finalize plan for settlement or bankruptcy case will be dismissed

Reported by Aubry Killion, WDSU

Our attorney Frank Lamothe attended today’s status conference for the New Orleans Archdiocese bankruptcy case. Judge Meredith Grabill said in court that if progress was not made in the case, she would dismiss the bankruptcy. She said if the settlement goes forward, she would like it to be completed by the end of 2025.

July 15 was the date set for a settlement plan to be filed. The vote for the settlement could happen on August 8. Two-thirds of the 600 claimants would have to vote in favor of the settlement for it to move forward.

Mr. Lamothe was interviewed and said, “My concern is that if it goes back to state court, the Archdiocese can go bankrupt again and there would be a huge delay in seeing survivors get any relief.”
