LLF Attorney Kristi Schubert Featured: Anthony Odiong Turning Down 20 Year Plea Deal

Our attorney Kristi Schubert was featured in an article and news report by WWLTV’s David Hammer and The Guardian’s Antonio Ramon Vargas: “U.S. priest accused of sexual assault turns down 20-year plea deal. Decision leaves Anthony Odiong on course for trial on charges that could carry a maximum of life imprisonment.”

Born in Nigeria and now a naturalized U.S. citizen, Anthony Odiong came to the United States in 2006 and worked in Texas and Louisiana as a Catholic priest. Odiong is currently facing five criminal charges of sexual assault in the first degree and two more in the second degree in Texas, with more charges likely to be added.

Odiong was scheduled to plead guilty to criminal charges but that hearing was called off on Monday. It appears that Odiong is proceeding toward a trial on five charges of sexual assault in the first degree and two such counts in the second degree stemming from encounters with three women. He could face life imprisonment if convicted of any first-degree charges.
