Catholic Deacon and Accused Child Molester, George Brignac, Dies

by Frank E. Lamothe, III

George Brignac died Monday according to an article by reporter Ramon Antonio Vargas in The Advocate/Times-Picayune.

Brignac was included on the list of pedophiles that the Archdiocese of New Orleans released on November 2, 2018. This list noted priests and deacons who had been accused of child abuse locally.

There were multiple claims against Brignac of traumatic sexual abuse on children over the years. Despite earlier claims from the 1970’s, he continued working at Catholic schools in the New Orleans area. Brignac was currently awaiting trial in Orleans Parish on allegations of child sexual abuse in the 1980’s.

Spokesman for the local chapter of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests, Kevin Bourgeois, said, “I’m saddened for the scores of men who were denied their day in court to see justice served.”
