The Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux has released the names of 14 priests deemed “credibly accused” of sexual transgressions against children. The list released today is divided into three categories, those priests who have either admitted, been convicted or entered pleas of guilty to sexual abuse of minors; those against whom credible allegations were made as a result of civil legal actions, and those against whom allegations were made, even if resulting in no official actions, have been deemed credible. Four of the fourteen priests on the list are dead. Nine of the priests named were relieved of “priestly duties.”
The trial lawyers at Lamothe Law Firm have substantial experience pursuing these types of claims and are passionate about finding justice and the best possible results for the victims. For example, in a group of several cases alleging physical and sexual abuse of disadvantaged boys residing at orphanage schools operated by the Catholic Church, attorney Frank Lamothe obtained a settlement of more than $5 million for his clients. Outside the courtroom, he has lectured on child molestation and abuse topics and authored “Sex Abuse in Louisiana,” a publication to help victims understand and assert their rights.
