Attorney Michelle P. Cumberland of Lamothe Law Firm in New Orleans

Michelle Cumberland is a trial lawyer with a reputation for aggressive and tireless advocacy on behalf of her clients. Michelle prides herself in being a victim’s advocate and believes that seeking justice for individuals is more than a job – it’s a cause. Michelle has clients of all ages and understands that her clients come with unique and different needs, which is why she is committed to helping clients navigate through whatever issues arise and is dedicated to empowering victims to achieve the healing they need and the justice they deserve. Pursing civil justice is an important and helpful step on the journey of healing and recovery from harm. Michelle understands the importance of helping survivors fully understand their options, the challenges and difficulties they will face, and what can be accomplished along the way – including monetary restitution and non-monetary justice (like a policy change, an apology, etc.).

Michelle’s areas of focus include vaccine-related injuries for children and adults all over the United States, civil lawsuits for sexual abuse victims, personal injury and property damage caused by environmental toxins, oil field accidents, medical malpractice, mass tort and class actions. Michelle has litigated countless hearings and trials at the state and federal level.

Michelle believes that together we can make a difference in our communities and that community advocacy is especially vital to the development of our young children. Michelle is honored to serve on the Board of Directors for STAIR (Start the Adventure in Reading), a Louisiana non-profit organization dedicated to identifying elementary school children that are falling behind in reading, and then giving those children extra tutoring to boost self-esteem and develop the reading skills needed to be successful in school and life. Michelle is also the proud recipient of the Louisiana State Bar Association 2011 Pro Bono Publico Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service to Louisiana’s Indigent. She has also received several Distinguished Service Awards from the Orleans Pro Bono Project, and continues to provide pro bono services in the greater New Orleans area to those in need.

Prior to receiving her law degree, Michelle worked as an Environmental Protection Specialist for the U.S. Navy in San Diego, California, and also interned for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C.
